White Mountains is another gorgeous design from Midori Hirose - this time, a simple yet unique raglan sweater. The deep yoke and slightly oversized body lend a relaxed silhouette while the raglan lines draw beautiful curves from the top vertex thanks to body and sleeve increases worked at different rates. The underside of the sleeves also curve with decreases worked at short intervals at the upper arm. In contrast, the body is knit straight down allowing for easy adjustments to the length. Be sure to take advantage of the top-down construction to try on your sweater as you go and work the body and sleeve lengths to your liking.

Pattern includes directions for 4 neckline variations - high, funnel, folded crew, and crew.

We knit our version in BLOOM, our soft, lofty yarn with a lovely fuzzy halo and enough body to give the sweater a satisfying, substantial feel. Its blend of mohair, merino, and a touch of nylon gives it a beautiful balance of softness, structure, and shape retention, making it a lovely choice for this relaxed silhouette. Worked on its own, BLOOM also creates a wonderfully plush fabric that highlights the sweater’s distinctive raglan shaping.

I include this information here ONLY as a guide since you will need to work your own swatch but as a notoriously tight knitter, these are the needles I used to achieve the gauge of the pattern:

Neck ribbing and cuffs: 5mm / US8
Short rows (back of neck, which are worked flat): 6.5mm / US 10.5
Main body (in the round): 7mm / US 10.75
