BAO BAO by Isabell Kraemer is a modern triangular shawl with a playful retro vibe. Worked back and forth from the top down, it features the same fun dip-stitch stripe pattern as the popular HEIMATHAFEN pullover.
The shawl begins with a classic garter-tab cast-on, with stitches increased along the edges and center on every right-side row to create a balanced triangular shape. Colour changes every four rows keep the rhythm lively, while the easy dip-stitch pattern adds texture and movement.
For our kits, we’ve opted for a 4-colour version, giving you plenty of freedom to choose your own personal colour story. More colours do mean a few extra ends, but these are easy to handle: try Stephen West’s Weavin’ Stephen technique on YouTube, or sew them in the traditional way as you go. Another tip for a neat finish - whenever you start a new colour, knit the first stitch with both the old and new yarns together, then drop the old strand. This ensures a smooth row of garter bumps along the right edge.
