Musselburgh Hat by Ysolda Teague
- Description
The Musselburgh Hat by Ysolda Teague is a double-layered beanie with 4-point crown shaping. The multi-gauge pattern now includes 9 gauges, for yarn weights between light fingering and DK, and 6 sizes. It begins with a centre-out cast-on and increases for the first crown. The next part is a beautifully meditative knit (perfect for those zoom calls!) of stockinette in the round. Finally, the hat is finished by mirroring the initial shaping with decreases. If you're an adventurous beginner looking to grow your skills this pattern offers a great way to learn how to knit a hat from the top-down: clear directions and linked tutorials are included.
We knit our version with Sunday Morning 4 Ply (fingering) held with Halo and used a 4.5 mm needle to achieve a 20 st/4" gauge. We opted for a minimalist version with no folded brim. We worked straight until hat measured 17.5” from cast-on and then worked the decrease section. Hat is 20” long end-to-end and 10” tall when one half is folded inside the other 😊.
Of course, kits include more than enough yarn to knit the hat longer to allow for a brim as pictured on the designer, Ysolda, in aqua.
KITS INCLUDE
1 skein Sunday Morning 4 Ply + 1 skein Halo
Yarns are held together throughout.
